Tips for Saving Money on Health Insurance

The open enrolment report of 2017 January reported that 8.7 million Americans were enrolled in the 2017 Affordable Care Act Coverage. Since then, we have all been hearing reports of how healthcare might change under Trumpcare. It is clear that having access to a healthcare plan does not necessarily imply that you are getting the cheapest plan or most suitable plans for your needs. If you are like most American, you are probably feeling the pinch of the rising costs in healthcare. Here is how you can save on health insurance.

1. Look beyond the government-run marketplace for other health insurance options
The truth is that most healthcare companies are no longer offering Obamacare. In some parts of the country you will only find one company that offers a government-managed health insurance policy. That does not mean that there aren’t other alternatives. Find a plan that is available in your locality by searching online.

2. Sign up for a catastrophic health plan
If you are 30 years or younger, you qualify for catastrophic health insurance plan rather than the complete government-run plan. Catastrophic plans are made to suit young, healthy individuals who rarely require medical care.

3. Stick to your parent’s plan-or don’t
Here is another tip for young people. If you are aged 26 or below, you can stay enrolled in your parent’s health insurance policy. This idea will work when you stay close to home. However, in case you are living further from your home. You might not have access to doctors and medical facilities. Do your math and see if it is possible to find a more affordable coverage than what your parent is paying to keep you enrolled on the family’s policy.

4. Maximize your coverage according to your prescription drugs
Major medical insurance firms cater for prescription drugs. However, the drugs covered will differ from an insurer to another. You can save a lot of money by choosing a plan that covers your personal prescription drug.
